SCRA Fixed-Seat Rowing Technique – Introduction (1/6)

In these short films, we’re aiming to demonstrate
the key elements of the fixed-seat rowing stroke with particular emphasis on the sweep
stroke, as used in the St Ayles Skiff. At the heart of this we want to encourage
you to row with a stroke that is not only efficient, but posturally healthy – a stoke
that will hopefully enable you to enjoy injury-free rowing for many years. We will try to describe a stroke that is smooth
and economical and is simple to learn and perform. In doing this, we hope you can also
develop some pointers for self management, because the cox cannot see everything. The rowing stroke is a continuous cycle of
catch; drive; finish; recovery. Whether you are rowing in a recreational or competitive
environment, the application of good technique is really essential.
